LASU MANAGEMENT POSITION ON THE DEATH OF A 200 LEVEL LASU FEMALE STUDENT
The
attention of the Lagos State University Management has been drawn to a story Published
by one of the National Dailies, on Sunday,
February 14, 2016 titled
“200Level
LASU Female Student Dies After Party”.
The story
has also gone viral on the Social media. The Lagos State University Management
confirm with regrets the sad incident involving the untimely demise of Miss
Omolara GBADEYAN, a female student of the Department of Industrial
Relations and Personnel Management, Faculty of Management Sciences of the University.
The
University Management hereby states the facts relating to this unfortunate
incident, to which the University is at this point in time privy as follows:
•The late
Miss Omolara GBADEYAN, a 200 Level Student of Industrial Relations and Personnel
Management [IRPM] attended a party hosted by History and International Studies
Students’ Association, at an Events’ Centre at Igando, Igando/Ikotun Local Council
Development Area on Thursday, February, 11, 2016;
•The
organizers of the said party neither informed the University Authority, nor sought
any approval for same. This is contrary to the rules and regulations of the University;
•The
party did NOTtake place in the University premises;
•The
University Management received the shocking news after the sad event has occurred
and IMMEDIATELY, swung into action by directing the Health Services Department,
Security Unit, and the Students’ Affairs Division to carry out detailed investigation
on the reported incident;
•On the
instruction of the University Management, the incident was reported to the Police
while the body of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital [LASUTH], while an autopsy is being carried out to determine
the cause of her death;
•The
matter is currently being investigated by the Police;
•A
detailed statement will be released by the University Authority as soon as the investigations
are concluded.
In the
meantime, the Vice Chancellor, Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun on behalf of the University
Community, commiserates with the bereaved family and wish the departed soul eternal
rest.
The
University Management hereby advises the students to remain calm, law abiding
as they go about their academic and other activities dutifully.
